APL IndiaLinx as a freight rail service is designed to meet the growing demand for rapid and reliable transportation solutions among India's growing import and export sectors. The service, which will ply the route between Mumbai and Delhi , will save up to two days in transit time for customers moving goods within India. Now customers who ship cargo to or from India can also transport their goods domestically by rail, all via one integrated service from APL IndiaLinx. Customers will enjoy a smooth and efficient end-to-end transport service, with state-of-the-art IT solutions and coordinated ship and train schedules. They will also be able to monitor the progress of their shipments at all times, through APL IndiaLinx's real-time tracking service. |
In addition, the service offers first and last mile connectivity, via trucking solutions to and from Inland Container Depots (ICDs), to ensure that APL IndiaLinx really has all the ground covered for customers in India . The manufacturing sector in India has grown rapidly, but relies heavily on an efficient transportation system to export the goods. According to research commissioned by Neptune Orient Lines (NOL) in 2005, India risks missing out on an additional 1-2% of annual GDP growth from its emerging manufacturing sector unless the country can improve transport connections. Over the years, APL has established efficient shipping services to and from Indian ports, and the APL IndiaLinx freight rail service will be a valuable addition, providing crucial land coverage. |

Through this integrated land-and-sea approach, APL IndiaLinx will help to address the challenges that India's transport sector is currently facing, and therefore boost the manufacturing industry and India's economy even further. APL IndiaLinx is a joint-venture between APL, the container transportation arm of the NOL Group, and HIPE (Hindustan Infrastructure Projects & Engineering Private Limited). These two organizations have joined together to form India Infrastructure and Logistics Private Limited (IILPL) who will be responsible for the operations of the APL IndiaLinx service. The service will run under the APL banner a brand that is synonymous with transport and logistics services globally. |
Nobody knows the Indian transportation industry better than APL, having pioneered cargo delivery in India with the arrival of the first ever APL container in 1973. Since then APL has expanded to 30 offices across India, supported by more than 300 employees. |
